10th Dec 2025
Whether you’re a newbie to skating, it’s a firm hobby of yours every time winter rolls around, or you just like taking the kids to the ice rink, there are lots of reasons to go ice skating - but did you know that it’s actually really good for you?
Our 2025/6 ice skating memberships have just launched, making it the perfect time to take to the ice. It’s great for the body, the brain and your social life - and our membership makes it really affordable too.
Ice Skating Helps Brain Development
When your kids are ice skating, they’re working on all sorts of skills that are great for the brain! The act of ice skating specifically focuses on two systems that influence mental processing, the proprioceptive and vestibular systems.
These systems work together to process movement and spatial orientation, as well as things like eye tracking and language. Essentially, when you take your kids ice skating, they’re developing brain power for reading, writing and attention span!
Even as adults, it can change your brain, with professional ice skaters having a larger cerebellum than non-skaters.
It’s a Full-Body Workout
Ice skating is a physical activity that gives adults and children alike a workout, making it great for tiring kids out on the weekend or in the school holidays. It engages all the major muscle groups, including the core, legs, glutes and pelvic floor muscles, as well as the cardiovascular system.
Unlike running, the gliding motion of ice skating is low-impact, which means that there is less stress on your knees and hips, too.
Ice Skating Builds Confidence
Learning to ice skate isn’t an easy task - it takes resilience and determination to get back up when you’ve fallen down and to practice learning new skills.
Whether you’re a child or an adult learner, you have to overcome the challenge of being wobbly and unsure, but as you see progress on the ice, you’ll get a boost in self-confidence that will translate to other areas of your life.
It’s Social
The ice rink is a great place to socialise, whether you’re taking the kids or you’re going with friends. It’s an excellent day out even if you go alone, because you’re bound to get talking to someone else who loves ice skating as much as you do.
Ice skating can be enjoyed however old you are, making it a great activity for families as everyone can get involved!
Ice Skating Is Fun!
The simplest reason why ice skating is good for you is that it’s fun! Whether it’s mastering a new trick, skating and chatting with friends or watching your family enjoy the ice from the side, there’s no denying that ice skating is an enjoyable pastime.
