Playhive launch Peter and Susie

About Us

In 2006 Peter and Susie Grant opened a Christmas tree shop in the park selling their beautiful estate-grown trees to the local community, rather than selling them all at wholesale.

This was the beginning of a great creative adventure for both Peter and Susie…

From this small acorn the imaginative and unique Christmas Adventure was born with the first Illuminated Enchanted Forest in England, filled with twinkling lights and festive fairytale sculptures.

To this was added the only illuminated yew tree maze in Yorkshire as well as a large outdoor ice rink and a unique artificial Nordic ski trail.

In 2011, amongst other awards, Peter and Susie won the Historic Houses’ ‘Best Family Day Out’ award for their creative diversification of a traditional estate.

Stockeld Park House is a beautiful Georgian Mansion set in a magnificent Yorkshire parkland designed in 1763 by the celebrated architect, James Paine, who also designed Nostell Priory and the stables and famous bridge at Chatsworth.

It was originally built for Sir William Middleton but family tragedy and scandalous, costly divorce meant the estate was sold to Robert John Foster, the great grandfather of the present owner, in 1875.

A field of christmas trees

Stockeld Park is still very much a home and is the centre of a 2000-acre agricultural estate, which is made up of beautiful rolling parkland, extensive farmland and Yorkshire’s finest and largest Christmas tree plantation.

This was one of Peter Grant’s early initiatives to diversify the estate and today there are some half a million Christmas trees in the ground!

At Stockeld Park, life never stands still – the family and their close team are constantly striving to ensure that the Estate continues to prosper and bring joy to future generations of family, employees, and visitors alike.

In 2013, they added imaginative themed adventure play areas, a go kart track, large inflatable play and an indoor play area and the Summer Adventure was born.

The adventure park is now open every school holiday and is enjoyed by thousands.
