Turn May Half Term Into an Outdoor Adventure
1st May 2026
When May half-term rolls around, keeping the kids entertained can quickly turn into a juggling act. You want something that gets them outdoors, burns off energy and keeps their mind active while they’re out of school.
That’s where a more immersive kind of adventure makes all the difference. Choosing these experiences gets the kids moving, all while supporting them through key developmental milestones. In this blog, we’ll cover the benefits of outdoor play and how you can create your own adventure this Spring at Stockeld Park.
Why Outdoor Activities Are Great for Half-Term
With the brighter days of spring in full swing, May half-term is the perfect time to get outside and reset. Nature is in full bloom, and not to mention better weather, which makes every experience outside feel that bit more exciting.
When it comes to outdoor play, there’s more than just this fresh air. This adventure gives your children the chance to:
-
Move, climb and explore at their own pace
-
Use their imagination in a natural setting
-
Engage with hands-on activities rather than screens
-
Spend quality time together as a family
-
Boost their vitamin D levels, key for healthy bones, teeth and muscles
What Makes a Great Family Day Out?
A day out with the kids is all about striking a balance: keeping children entertained while giving you something to enjoy too.
When planning your day out, it’s worth looking for:
-
Variety of activities - Kids can get bored easily, so you need an attraction that offers a mix of high-energy play and quieter moments for creativity.
-
Room to roam - You want somewhere with plenty of space to sit back and relax while your little one adventures.
-
Interactive play - Choose an experience that invites the kids to take part, not just watch.
-
All-day value - Make sure the attraction has enough to do and see, so you’re not left planning more to do in one day.
-
On-site facilities - A trip out isn’t without multiple trips to the restroom, and the much-needed food and drink to keep the energy levels up.
This is where an adventure park really stands out, bringing everything you need for a great day out in one place.
Create Your Own Adventure This Spring at Stockeld Park
During May half-term, we’re running our Spring Adventure, which includes our Storybook Spring Trail that puts your child’s creativity to the test. As you explore the Enchanted Forest, you’ll meet live-action fairytale characters* - each waiting to be discovered, named and shaped by your child’s imagination to make their very own story.
Following a Trail Book, your children will craft their story at the Story Creation Theatre in the Stockeld Theatre or take it home to add any more special touches. When the tale is ready, you can enter our Storybook Spring Competition for a chance to win exciting prizes and have your adventure brought to life next year!
*Our storybook characters will be wandering the Enchanted Forest from 10:30am to 4pm daily.
