How to Make The Most of Winter Weekdays with the Kids
7th Oct 2025
Not looking forward to winter weekdays with the kids? They can be long, repetitive and let’s face it, a little draining. But with a little preparation and a perspective shake up, we can turn weekdays into a set of magical moments that combine fun, connection and a sprinkling of festive cheer.
In this blog, we’ll share some ideas on how to make the most of cold winter weekdays.
Embrace The Cold, Dark Mornings
Mornings in winter with kids can be a struggle. It’s still dark outside, the kids are either not waking up on time or they’re bizarrely full of energy, and you need coffee - asap.
But there is joy to be had in these cold, dark mornings. A daylight bulb helps wake up little sleepy-heads and an upbeat kitchen disco can make even the gloomiest day feel bright.
Get the kids dressed in warm (and waterproof!) clothes, fill them up with a good, hearty breakfast and head out the door. A little adventure every day will put a smile on everyone’s faces - even if it's just for an hour. Spending time in nature each day boosts mental health, strengthens the immune system, and aids concentration.

A Merry Morning Activity
With Christmas coming up, there are loads of local festive activities you could take the kids to. From ice skating to visiting Santa's grotto, you’re quite frankly spoilt for choice.
At Stockeld you can join us on weekday mornings for our magical Christmas activity deal, Tinsel Tots, for just £8.50 per person. Pick from:
-
The Playhive. One of Europe’s largest indoor playgrounds, it has four different themes and something for all ages.
-
The Enchanted Forest & The Snowflake Maze. A magical woodland with five large playgrounds and a snowflake-shaped maze, both are brimming with seasonal surprises.
-
Ice skating. A classic winter activity! Get them started early with cute penguin skating aids - guaranteed fun on the ice.
You can add another activity for £3.50, and you get a discounted entry to visit Santa with a Tinsel Tots ticket!

Festive Lunch
Stay out and refuel while you’re on the go, or head home for a home-cooked meal. Either way, something that feels wholesome and seasonal will fill up that festive tank. Kids aren’t always the easiest to please, which is why having pizza or pasta up your sleeve is always a winner. At our Playhive Pizzeria, you’ll find all their favourites – mac & cheese, tomato pasta, jacket potatoes and cheesy pizzas.

A Cosy Afternoon
Time for a nap (for everyone) and something cosy for the afternoon. The light is starting to fade at this point, which works in your favour. Grab a winter-themed book or a Christmas playlist to help the kids wind down for sleep.
For the rest of the afternoon, set up a festive activity like gingerbread biscuit decorating or colouring in Christmas-themed pictures.
