What Makes the Playhive Better Than Traditional Soft Play?
3rd Nov 2026
Soft play centres are often a go-to choice for parents looking for an indoor activity where kids can burn off energy. But over time, traditional soft play can start to feel boring and repetitive, featuring the same foam-padded mazes, climbing frames and ball pits.
The Playhive at Stockeld Park brings so much more to the table, providing an indoor play experience unlike anything you’ve seen before! Here, both children and adults can get immersed in a world of adventure across 20,000 sq ft of imaginative play.
With a variety of activities and themed areas, the Playhive offers a unique experience that the whole family will enjoy.
What Are the Benefits of Visiting the Playhive?
Themed Areas for Imaginative Play
If you’re looking for a day out with the kids that inspires creativity and imagination, then a trip to the Playhive is exactly what you need. With four interconnected themed areas complete with interactive games and activities, storytelling naturally becomes part of exploration.
The Playhive’s four themed areas include:
Space
Air
Sea
Jungle
Award-Winning Indoor Play
Not only is the Playhive one of Europe’s largest indoor play areas, but it’s also award-winning! In 2025, the Playhive was awarded the title ‘Best Indoor Play Centre Over 20,000 sq ft’ by the Association of Indoor Play (AIP), earning recognition for its creativity and inclusivity.
Housed in an impressive rounded building, the Playhive is easy to navigate and full of natural light, creating a bright, open space for children to explore. From tunnel slides to high-level walkways and interactive structures, there’s so much to discover and enjoy in the Playhive, especially the huge helter-skelter at the centre of the action!
And when everyone’s finished burning off steam and worked up an appetite, the Playhive Pizzeria is located directly opposite, serving up delicious pizza, pasta and more.
Fun For All Ages
At the Playhive, the fun isn’t just for the little ones! Unlike traditional soft play centres, where spaces can feel uncomfortable and cramped for older children and parents, the Playhive was built for families to explore together. Adults don’t have to settle for watching from the café; they can join in the adventure, making the Playhive an experience everyone can enjoy.
There’s even a dedicated zone for toddlers, complete with swings and slides, offering a quieter space for little ones.
Adventure Beyond the Indoors
Traditional soft play centres usually provide just indoor play, but at the Playhive, the adventure doesn’t have to end when you leave!
Stockeld Park offers a range of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed after a Playhive session, including:
The Enchanted Forest, a magical woodland filled with outdoor playgrounds and interactive activities.
The Magical Maze, a two-mile labyrinth of hedge-lined paths to explore.
A host of seasonal activities that change throughout spring, summer, autumn and winter.
